This 4 Days Gorilla Safari takes you to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, home to almost half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. This trip starts and ends in Kigali, the capital city of Rwanda.
Day 1: Pickup and travel to Uganda’s Mgahinga Gorilla National Park via Cyanika Border
Day 2: Gorilla Tracking in Mgahinga National Park
Day 3: Batwa Cultural Experience
Day 4: Return to Kigali, Rwanda
Day 1: Travel to Southern Bwindi National Park (For Gorilla trekking, Uganda)
Pickup from Kigali, Rwanda. We can pickup from the airport or hotel. Take a Kigali City Tour – Visit the Genocide Memorial Sites, Local Markets. After lunch in Kigali, hit the road to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, part of the Virunga Forest that is home the mountain gorillas in Uganda. Check in at Kisoro Travelers Hotel.
Day 2: Gorilla Tracking in Uganda
After early breakfast, we shall proceed to park offices with packed lunch for a briefing about the ‘Dos’ and ‘Don’ts’ while with gorillas. Tracking can take 2-8 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas. Tracking involves walking up steep and densely forested hills before finally coming across the gorillas camouflaged in the vegetation. You will stay with these Giant apes for 1 hour for observation and photography. Relax in the evening as we wait for dinner and overnight stay at your previous Lodge.
Day 4: Batwa Community Tour
After breakfast, you will have community tour to visit the Batwa pygmies, the local inhabitants of the Mgahinga Forest. These communities were dorecfully evicted from the Mgahinga Forest during the creation of the national park. The enjoy their entertainment and cultural shows. Return for relaxation as you wait for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Kigali city tour & departure
Breakfast at the lodge and hit the road back to Kigali (4hrs). If we missed the activities of Day 1, we will take a brief city tour to Gisozi Genocide Memorial Museum, local art and craft shops, local markets and do last minute shopping. Drop off at the Airport or Hotel.
