  100% recommend booking this trip!! - My mom and I booked the "5 day Rwanda Gorillas and Akagera Wildlife Safari" tour for January 2026. We modified our tour to start at a local hotel in Kigali... read more since our flight was arriving late the night before. Robert picked us up promptly at 9am and had ample water bottles ready for us for the duration of the trip. The driving in Rwanda was a little bit more hectic than we were used to (lots of motorcycles weaving in and out, having to pass on the left side of the road often), but Robert kept us safe.

We saw four of the big five during our two game drives as well as plenty of other wild life. I have previously done safaris in South Africa, Tanzania and Kenya, and can assure you Akagera is worth a visit. We were a little uncomfortable with the weather when we were supposed to go on the boat ride on Lake hema, but Robert worked it out for us to go out the next morning prior to our departure and it was perfect. Robert also helped us to get a "near" gorilla family so we did not have to drive upwards of two hours to start our gorilla trek.
The gorilla trekking experience truly was a once in a lifetime adventure. And I don't mean adventure lightly - we trekked through puddles of mud that we kept getting stuck in, stinger needle plants, and dense jungle that required a machete. But spending the one hour with the gorillas will be something I remember for the rest of my life.

As this was my mom's first time doing a safari, we opted to stay in luxury accommodations (mainly for the safari lodge). We stayed at Ruzizi Tented Lodge and while it was rustic, it was much nicer than any of the previous safari lodges I have stayed at. As a forewarning, hippos do graze near the lake at night and can be quite loud. My mom was convinced one was going to come into our tent, but the tent was up on a platform ana safe. The Mountain Gorilla View Lodge turned out to be more like an individual house than a hotel room. It was cozy with a seating area and fireplace that definitely recommend you use. I also recommend bringing plenty of cash lots of one dollar bills for tipping as we were not offered the ability to pay for extra drinks there with a credit card.

Overall, I definitely recommend this tour and this company. Thank you to both Robert and Go Gorilla Trekking for this once in a lifetime experience that I was able to share with my mom.

We also hiked to Dian Fossey's Tomb. The tour was well organised with well planned activities. We stayed at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge where the staff went the extra mile to make us feel at home. Big thanks to you all for a thoroughly memorable holiday, especially to Chris who couldn't have done more to make our experience so enjoyable.
