This 4 Days (3 Nights) Uganda Safari leads you to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, home to the endangered mountain gorillas. Sitting high in the clouds, Mgahinga protects some of the mountain gorillas that roam the Virunga Region. There is a resident gorilla family that lives in the park. the Nyakagezi Family.

Trip Highlights

Day 1: Board the AeroLink Flight from Entebbe Airport. Travel by air to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Southern Uganda. Our guide will pick you up from the Kisoro Airstrip for a transfer to Mount Gahinga Lodge.

Day 2: After breakfast, go for gorilla trekking in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. The duration of the hike depends on the movement of the gorillas. Go for the Batwa Experience within their newly developed community.  Overnight at Mount Gahinga Lodge

Day 3: Go for golden monkey tracking within the Mgahinga Gorilla National park

Day 4: Drop off at Kisoro Airport.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Travel to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park (For Gorilla trekking, Uganda)

Pickup from Kisoro Airstrip by our guide. Travel to the nearby Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. In the afternoon, go for a brief tour to one of the local communities of the Batwa People, the former custodians of the gorilla forests. The visit to the pygmy community is amazing and educative. The visit also benefit the vulnerable communities of the Batwa People who were evicted out of the forest without any compensation in order to safeguard the mountain gorillas. Relax at the lodge as you wait for the next day gorilla trek.

Overnight at Kisoro Travelers Hotel or Lake Mulehe Lodge (Midrange) / Mount Gahinga Lodge (Luxury)

Day 2: Gorilla Tracking in Uganda

After early breakfast, the guide will drive you to the Mgahinga National Park offices. With packed lunch get ready for the briefing about the ‘Dos’ and ‘Don’ts’ while with the endangered mountain gorillas. Led by a local guide, enter into the montane forest and start your search for the endangred mountain gorillas. Gorilla tracking can take 2-8 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas. Tracking involves walking up steep and densely forested hills before finally coming across the gorillas camouflaged in the vegetation. You will stay with these giant apes for 1 hour for observation and photography. After the gorilla trek, return to the park office for your certificate. Embark on a return trip to Kigali.

Day 3: Golden Monkey Tracking

After breakfast, go for golden monkey tracking in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Mgahinga is one of the few places on earth where you can see these rare monkeys that are found in the Virunga Region. The hike to see the golden monkeys takes you to higher elevations that are characterised with the bamboo forest. There is a good population of the golden monkeys that has been habituated for tourism visits. You will enjoy the one hour with these old world monkeys – you will watch them munch the bamboo offshoots, their main diet. After the session, return to the ampitheatre where you will find your guide ready to transfer you to the lodge. Relax at the lodge.

Day 4: Fly Back to Entebbe

After breakfast, our guide will transfer you to the Kisoro Airstrip. Fly back to Entebbe by AeroLink. Drop off at the hotel.
